Earlier this week, I had the privilege of participating in a powerful exercise with a group of inspiring women. We practiced a prophetic act of opening and closing doors to various aspects of our lives. As we began, we were asked to list the things we wanted to close the door on—things like unforgiveness, bitterness, shame, and procrastination. Each of us stood up, walked to a door nearby, and verbally began falling out of agreement with these negative forces, symbolically closing the door on them (Ephesians 4:31-32).
The second part of the exercise was to write down what we wanted to open the door to: love, peace, happiness, wisdom—the blessings we desire in our lives (Philippians 4:8). We then physically opened the door, declaring that we were aligning ourselves with these positive things and welcoming them in (Colossians 3:15). Just as I felt a release when closing the door to negativity, I experienced an embracing of positivity when opening it.
This exercise was a reminder to me that in life, we have the power to open and close the doors to what influences us. We are the ones who must step out of alignment with the things that hinder us and realign with the things that bring us closer to God and to the life He desires for us (James 4:7-8). No one else can open or close these doors for us—our participation is required.
So today, I encourage you to take a quiet moment of reflection. Write down everything in your life that you need to close the door to—anything that hinders your walk with God and stops you from moving forward (Hebrews 12:1). Then, list the things you want to open the door to—healthy relationships, God’s love, peace, and good health (John 10:10). Remember, if you don't take these steps, no one else will do it for you. Let's grow together.
